The Rennes Institute of Chemical Sciences (ISCR) is involved in sustainable development, through its research themes: eco-materials / eco-processes, recovery of biosourced natural materials reducing the carbon footprint, energy conversion or storage...
The ISCR is also engaged in a reflection on the environmental and societal impact of its own research activities. An evaluation of the ISCR’s infrastructures and practices is undertaken to be translated into actions:
- Installation of a close chilled water network on the Beaulieu campus,
- Development of a new air cooled condenser by one of ISCR glassblowers and chemists (innovation protected by two patent applications in France and in Europe),
- Modification of consumable purchases to reduce packaging.
This environmental approach relies on a working group open to all staff that proposes actions (information days, calculation of greenhouse gases emissions, waste reduction, etc).
