Our societies, and particularly those in the most developed countries, are more or less engaged in the energy transition. On a global scale, this transition is only at its beginning and yet it reveals a major problem which is that of the management of renewable energies. A massive financial and human investment in these energies can only succeed if the problem of their storage is solved. But how to store this intermittent energy? Looking back at our sciences history, many solutions have been considered, studied and sometimes developed, but this remains very insufficient in relation to future needs. Finally, will the currently most prominent chemical (hydrogen) and electrochemical (battery) storage solutions have the necessary maturity to solve the intermittency of renewable energies in the next decade ?
