ABSTRACT

Many vectors are elaborated via Top-Down approaches. To achieve this, energy-intensive processes are often implemented. The Bottom-Up approach is based on the spontaneous formation of architectures from monomers. These thermodynamically favorable self-assemblies do not require external energy input. When two polysaccharides of opposite charges are brought together, it is possible to observe an associative phase separation. This separation can be solid/liquid with the formation of particles or liquid/liquid resulting in the formation of coacervates. These structures are good candidates for the design of vectors. However, the formation of these objects is strongly impacted by environmental parameters such as pH, temperature and ionic strength. Indeed, it is generally accepted that electrostatic interactions drive self-assembly. By modifying polysaccharides with derivatives of phenolic compounds, is it possible to introduce new interactions and direct the self-assembly towards the formation of new objects? The approach adopted at LIBio is based on the development of vectors by valorizing agro-resources and by implementing environmentally friendly processes. Thus, the modification of natural polysaccharides (chitosan, pectin, gum arabic...) with oxidation products of phenolic compounds produced by enzymatic way has been privileged.
