Biography
Patrick LOULERGUE received his PhD in Environmental Process Engineering in 2012 from INSA Toulouse (France). He then joined the Université de Rennes 1 (France) first as Postdoctoral fellow and then as Associate Professor since 2014. In July 2018, he was visiting professor at the Sichuan University (Chengdu, China). His research activity lies at the interface between chemical engineering and material science with a focus on sustainable processes and materials. In particular, his research interests are related to the synthesis, characterization and use of filtration membranes. His current scientific production consists of more than 30 scientific papers, 3 book chapters and more than 60 communications in national or international conferences. He received the 2012-2013 national prize of the best PhD dissertation in membrane science from the French Membrane Society as well as 2 Young Academics awards from the European Membrane Society (2016 and 2019). He has been involved ~20 international, national or regional projects and industrial collaborations as PI or participant and was supervisor of 7 PhD thesis (1 on-going). He is a current member of the scientific council of International Filter Testing Services (Institut de la Séparation et des Techniques Séparatives, IFTS, France) and serves as an Editor for Chemical Engineering Science .
Research interests
Patrick's research lies at the interface of material (polymer) science and chemical engineering with a particular interest towards the development of sustainable membrane operations in the field of water treatment and biotechnology.
More specifically, Patrick's work focuses on:
- The fabrication and use of innovative membranes based on biobased/biodegradable materials and/or including nano-objects
- The stability of membrane materials during use and the membrane end-of-life
- The role of physical chemistry in the transfer mechanisms in membrane filtration and membrane distillation
