Summary
Prof Sophie Tomasi
Sophie Tomasi studied Pharmacy at the University of Rennes 1 where she received her PhD in chemistry in 1999 under the guidance of Pr P. Uriac. After a postdoctoral position under the supervision of Dr R. Barrow at the ANU University of Canberra, she became associate professor in 2000 then full professor of Pharmacognosy in 2011 at the University of Rennes 1. She possesses skills in the field of phytochemical studies and her research interests focus on natural products chemistry (lichens) and more recently on lichen-associated bacteria as source of bioactive compounds. She also carries out biotransformation and fermentation studies using lichen-associated bacteria.
Main area of research
Isolation, structural identification of bioactive natural products (lichens)
Study of lichen-associated bacteria communities and isolation of their secondary metabolites (chemical ecology field)
Chemical profiling of lichens and bacteria
Biotransformation and fermentation process
Development of new extractive processes (microwave, ionic liquids)
